A big congrats to Marc for winning his purple belt division last weekend at Master’s Worlds! He has now won blue and purple belt. His energy and tenacity are an inspiration to the rest of the academy. Sometimes we have to have talks to keep him healthy, not competing too much and being smart on the mats because when he goes in to a tournament healthy he is a hard person to beat.
Also big congrats to Tyler on taking 3rd in a big brown belt division. Tyler runs our competition practices and while he has a great showings before it was awesome to see him put it all together out there. He had a great run, getting off to good starts and showing a great closed guard. He had the opponent in a triangle choke in the semi’s as well. We are very proud.
Also professor Tessa won her first match before losing to the eventual champion of her division. Great to see her making a comeback to the competition scene and leading by example.
Other standouts this weekend were Rafael Lovato Jr who was here teaching and training a few weeks ago taking home the gold in his black belt division. Also Tom Oberhue of 5 rings BJJ in Portland made a handful of trips out to get ready for this tournament and took home 3rd place before losing by just an advantage in the semi finals.
Finally Victor Hugo was the big winner of CJI 2 where he brought home the team title, the most submissions and the most money with two victories by arm triangle. It was great training with him just a couple months ago and him teaching at our 10 year anniversary seminar.
